“Family Readiness” is the state soldiers, spouses and family members proactively prepare for, and in which they are able to cope with mobilization, deployments and prolonged separations. To prepare, soldiers-both active and reserve components- and their families attend classes and receive written instructional materials on subjects such as how to prepare a will, how to establish and manage a household budget, how to communicate with children of various ages, and how to maintain communication with the rear detachment of the deployed unit.

Community and Family Support Centers

· The resource library maintains brochures on military life and deployment issues for use at your FRG meetings and Unit Deployment Briefs.
· Our binding machine will help you make your welcome/deployment booklets.
· Our laminator can help keep things pretty and important documents secure.
· Our large classroom can more than accommodate any FRG meeting, microwave available, please call to reserve.
· We will soon be able to offer video conferencing for “real time” communication for deployed units and their families.

The Readiness Center belongs to all Family Readiness Groups and families on Post. Any and all suggestions or ideas will be implemented when possible.

Army Family Action Planning (AFAP) - click here to email AFAP!
Army Family Action Plan is an Army-wide program that allows all members of the Army (active duty, retired military, family members and civilian employees) the opportunity to voice concerns and voice issues to installation and Army leadership. Here is your opportunity to make a difference in the Army quality of life for the Total Army Family. AFAP facilitates many positive changes that enhance the Army Experience. Issues are generated and collected from the Fort Campbell community and are addressed at the annual installation conference. Issues that are not resolved at Installation level are forwarded to MACOM and then Department of Army for resolution. The program allows your voice to be heard. Hours: Mon-Fri 0730-1630.

Now that your soldier is in the Army at Fort Campbell, he or she will be learning about the structure of the Army and its traditions. Soldiers receive training that will enable them to meet the many challenges of military service-rapid deployment, field training exercises and other tasks involved in carrying out the mission of the United States Army. They WILL be well trained and therefore prepared for the next assignment, whether overseas or within the continental United States!

What about YOU, the family member? How will you get trained to help cope with the challenges of a military lifestyle? How will you learn about military benefit, and about facilities available to you? What is the commissary, PS, PCS or an LES? These questions, and more, will be answered in Army Family Team Building (AFTB) classes. AFTB is a program developed BY family members FOR family members, a program that has been developed just for you.

AFTB Classes provide basic training for family members. The classes will answer questions you have about Army life and provide information you need to help make Army life and your Army experience great. Classes are short so you can attend without taking too much time out of your busy schedule. Classes are also held during the day and in the evening. There are three levels and can be completed in as little as three months.

Daytime classes are held monthly at various locations. A daytime lunch is provided on the last day of class compliments of First Command. Night classes are also held monthly at the Lee Soldier & Family Support Center, 5661 Screaming Eagle Blvd. A "Night Owl" meal is provided by Pioneer Services. Funded childcare is available at Waters Child Development Center #1 (for day classes). You must pre-register for the classes in order to have childcare provided.

The AFTB program is operated by family member volunteers with the support of the installation commander and the Community Activities Business Center. Call (270) 798-4800 for more information.

Deployment separates military families. Despite the challenge of separation and the changes in your family structure, deployment can be a positive experience. The key to this is planning The Army Community Service (ACS) staff can provide the programs and services necessary for soldiers and families to plan for a successful deployment.

To organize, you must plan for a deployment of three to twelve months. The length of a deployment is dependent upon the mission and the requirements of the operation. In case of war, plan for one year regardless of what your orders read.

Remember it will work right-if you have a plan. The Army Community Service staff is here to help you, but you must run with the ball. If you don’t, your family will be the ones to suffer from lack of planning.
