Screaming Eaglets Assist in Homeland Security

As Screaming Eagles meet their rendezvous with destiny, their children are currently participating in location data collection projects around Ft. Campbell in a collaborative effort with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Planning Commission to do their part in Homeland Security. MWR Child Services received Geographic Information System (GIS) grants from Environmental Research Systems Inc, (ESRI) to educate the children about GIS and give the children a hands-on approach to learning new technology. The children were given basic instruction on hand held Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receivers. The GPS receivers are civilian models of what 101st soldiers carry into combat. The children will be collecting location data in and around Christian County, Kentucky to be used in Public Safety and Disaster Planning. This new technology sparks the children’s interest and gives them a feeling that they are contributing to the Homeland Security effort while their soldier parents are serving in the forces which guard our country and our way of life.
