Army Family Covenant (AFC)

What is AFC?

AFC stands for Army Family Covenant and is composed of different groups or levels that determine a variety of benefits awarded to our soldiers by the Department of the Army. Child, Youth and School Services (CYSS) is committed to provide support to the Families of Fort Campbell. Click on the different Mission Levels bellow to see what benefits are awarded, based on the highest (most benefits) category.

Mission Level 1

Mission Level 2

  • Multiple Deployment During a Year (TCS, PCS, TDY)

Mission Level 3

  • Rear Detachment and WT Cadre (RD, WTCA)

Mission Level 1

The Department of the Army categorizes a Soldier as been in Mission Level 1 (ML1) when one of the following happens. To find out all benefits for each category please click on the link.

A soldier has fallen in combat.

When the unfortunate event happens, and a Soldier dies in combat his/her Family are awarded the maximum of all the benefits AFC has to offer. These are considered Survivors of Fallen Warriors.

A soldier was wounded in Combat.

While training and equipment prevent many injuries and casualties, the reality is that many soldiers get wounded in action. When that happens the Department of the Army is committed to restore the soldier to his maximum capacity. Wounded Warriors get assigned to the Warrior in Transition Pogram at the Soldier and Families Assistance Center (SFAC).

A soldier has been sent to a War Zone on Deployment Status.

Soldiers get trainings and assignments away form home all the time. However only those soldiers that receive orders to go Deployed receive these benefits. Such distinction is specified on his/her orders.

Mission Level 2

Soldiers can receive orders for different kinds of assignment. These assignments can vary on length, location and limitations in regard to the soldiers’ Family/Dependants. The Department of the Army categorizes a Soldier as been in Mission Level 2 (ML2) when one of the following happens. To find out all benefits for each category please click on the link.

Temporary Change of Station (TCS)

A Soldier receives orders to go to a different post for a short period of time. These orders for TCS could be due to training, schooling or even an assignment to a deployable zone.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Unaccompanied Tour

A Soldier receives orders to go to a different post without his/her Family. Usually this PCS is to places like Korea, Kuwait, Kosovo, etc.

Temporary Duty TDY (90-179 Days)

A Soldier or DOD employee with order to travel for an assignment at a location other than the his/her permanent duty station. These orders are usually for relatively short duration-90 to 179 days.

Mission Level 3

There are many ways in witch to support a mission and the Department of the Army has extended benefit to those soldiers and their families. Mission Level 3 (ML3) is a category for those who are attached to deployable unit but not deployed or to a Warriors in Transition Unit but not wounded. Rear Detachment Cadre (Identified on Rear Det/Personnel Availability Rpt)

When units deploy, there are soldiers that stay behind. This soldiers serve, among other things, as liaison between the deployed unit and the soldiers’ Family. This personal also stays to assist the deployed unit with local matters.

Warriors in Transition Cadre (WTCA)

Wounded Warriors need a dedicated personnel to assist them in their recuperation time. Soldiers who work for the Warriors in Transition Unit who are not wounded themselves, are consider WT Cadre. Their benefits are less than the ones offered to the Wounded soldiers in their Unit.
