Welcome

Library staff photoSink Library offers a host of services. First-time visitors can apply for library cards at the main desk in the entrance lobby. Circulation staff process requests for library cards from new customers in a matter of minutes. A photo ID proving an individual’s status is all that is needed to get a library card. Sink Library usage is open to active-duty military and their family members, military retirees, civilian employees and contractors and students enrolled in the programs at the Army Education Center.

The Reference Room has eighteen computers providing Internet access, a computer devoted to word-processing, a CD burner, a scanner and three terminals designed to keep children occupied while their parents work on projects.

Sink Library has a collection of nearly 70,000 volumes. Titles in the collection cover every conceivable subject area. While the aim of the facility is to provide the Fort Campbell community with the equivalent of a general public library found in Anytown USA, the collection is understandably strong in military history and topics of interest to the soldier and his or her family. The Acquisitions Librarian sees to it that the latest best-sellers are available for check-out. Patrons can request titles they would like to see added to the collection.

Brunch & A Book Selections For May

"Memorial Day" by Harry Shannon
Mick Callahan is a washed up, drunken radio psychiatrist working for a small station in Nevada.  In the midst of an offer to return to a "prime time" a young woman, who had called into his show, is murdered.  He must solve the case before the execs w/ the big radio station get wind.

"Three Day Road" by Joseph Boyden
2 young Cree natives leave their pristine North Country to fight in WWI.  Loosely based on a true account of a Cree sniper from WWI.

"A Mother's Day" by Emilie Richards, Marie Ferrarella and Elizbeth Bevarly
Three stories celebrating motherhood and love.

"The Mother's Day Murder" by Lee Harris
Former nun trying to solve the murder of a young woman, presently a nun, claiming to be the daughter of Sister Joseph:  her mentor and dear friend.  Good plot twist.

"Every Day Is Mother's Day" by Hilary Mantel
Mother and mentally challenged daughter dealing w/ socoal services; want to remove her from home but daughter is quite crafty and manipulative; dark humor and supernatural aspects.

"Slaughterhouse-five"by Kurt Vonnegut
Classic absurdist tale.  Tells of Billy Pilgrim who get "unstuck" in time and travels throughout his life, including being POW in WWII in Dresden, Germany during firebombing, but also to another planet: Tralfamador.  The Dresden portion is based upon Vonnegut's true life experience as a POW during WWII in Dresden firebombing killing thousands of civilians.  Part sci-fi, part true story.

"What They Carried" by Tim O'Brien
Collection of shortstories about Vietnam.  Weapons and good-luck charms carried by U.S. soldiers in Vietnam here represent survival, lost innocence and the war's interminable legacy.

Sink Library has Free Books for Soldiers

Sometimes a good book is the best way to wind down at the end of a stressful day or pass the time during a long wait. While some may prefer a good love story, others need a comedy or even some science fiction to help them escape the daily grind.

Starting now, the R.F. Sink Library is offering free books for Soldiers who are deployed or deploying. These brand new paperback books are organized into Book Kits and will be given out to any Unit with Soldiers deploying or already deployed. These kits contain an assortment of fiction and non fiction books. To get these free book kits for your Unit, send a Unit representative to the R. F. Sink Library at 38 Screaming Eagle Boulevard and the friendly staff will help load the appropriate number of kits into your vehicle. Units who are already deployed can also take advantage of this great program by sending an email to Karen.murphy@us.army.mil and putting "book kit request" in the subject line. For additional information on the Book Kit Program, contact the R.F. Sink Library at (270)798-4827.
