Hunting
Hunting on Fort Campbell falls into two categories, big game and small game. Seasons and season limits are published by Outdoor Recreation in Cam Circular 215-1. In order to hunt either big or small game on Ft. Campbell, hunters must have a valid hunting license from Kentucky or Tennessee for the game they intend to hunt and a Ft. Campbell post permit. All post permits are valid for one year, from March to February, similar to the state license. Both licenses and post permits are sold at the Outdoor Recreation Office. Small game hunting is all game not covered under big game. The most common hunts are for quail, rabbit, squirrel and raccoon, but other types of game may be taken. Combination permits, which allow for the taking of all types of game, are also available for purchase. Everyone, regardless of age participating in hunting on Ft. Campbell must have proof of an approved hunter safety course. The minimum age for hunting on Ft. Campbell is 10. An area assignment, good for that day is also required.
Fishing
Ft. Campbell has two lakes, two stocked trout streams and numerous beaver ponds that are open to fishing. Ft. Campbell has a Kiddie fishing pond (age 12 and under) where no permits are required and a youth/ handicapped pond (age 17 and under) that does require permits. Fishing is permitted year round, with some exceptions. Anyone wishing to fish on Ft. Campbell must have a valid fishing license from Kentucky or Tennessee. A trout stamp from Kentucky or Tennessee is also required when trout fishing. Young fishermen may be exempt from this requirement. As mentioned above a Ft. Campbell post permit is required for fishing. Fishing permits are good for one year, from March to February, similar to the state license. Boats may be used on the two lakes, but speed is limited to five miles per hour with no wake. The most common fish found in Ft. Campbell waters are bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and trout. Daily limits and creel limits are published by the Outdoor Recreation Office in Cam Circular 215-1. An area assignment for that day is also required.
Area Assignments
Most outdoor recreation activities on Ft. Campbell require an area reservation more commonly referred to as an Area Assignment. Military training on Ft. Campbell is a priority; however, areas not being utilized by the military may be available for recreational use. Outdoor Recreation maintains a weekly list of the areas available for recreation use. During hunting seasons, the list is posted on our website www.fortcampbellmwr.com. Ft. Campbell utilizes a telephonic, computerized reservation system. The number to call to make a reservation is (270)798-0401. For those who desire to hunt, reservations are made on the following schedule: active duty members and their dependents may begin calling at 0800 hrs two days prior to the desired hunting day; Disabled American veterans may begin calling at 0830hrs; Department of Army employees and military retirees may call beginning at 0900 hrs. All others can begin calling at 1000 hrs. Reservations for activities other than hunting may be made starting at 0800 hrs the day of the event. The automated menu will guide the permit holder to successfully secure a reservation in a training area. Only one reservation at a time on a given day is allowed and reservations may only be made up to two days in advance. After securing a reservation, individuals need to come by Outdoor Recreation to pick up an Area Assignment. This document serves as proof of the permit holder's reservation and authorization to participate in recreation activities in the rear area of Ft. Campbell. At the completion of the activity, the Area Assignment must be returned to the Outdoor Recreation Office.
