Air Assault Auto’s U-Buy/U-Sell Service Improves the Way Fort Campbell Soldiers Buy and Sell Their POVs.

Air Assault Auto has, from the very beginning, set out to be the customer’s “one stop shop” for all their vehicle needs. The facility offers everything from repair service and parts, to vehicle auctions and classes in automotive repair. And now, with the opening of its new U-Buy/U-Sell service lot, the facility has made even the buying and selling of personal vehicles that much more convenient for its customers.

Gone are the days of messing around with classified ads, or having to leave your vehicle on a busy street corner to get exposure as you’re trying to sell it. Or, as a buyer, having to rely on a seller’s good word alone that the vehicle they’re trying to sell you won’t fall apart a month after you buy it. This new service helps take the guesswork out of the entire process, and simplifies it all by solving these very issues.

First, and foremost, the U-Buy/U-Sell service lot is located directly behind the Air Assault Auto facility making it easy for people to find, and easy for staff to make daily inspections of the lot. And unlike the busy street corner, this lot is secured on all sides by a perimeter fence and lit with flood lights after dark.

These features basically help minimize the risk of damage that could be done to a vehicle as it sits and waits to be sold, helping give peace of mind to those trying to sell their POVs.

“It’s all about offering our customers greater security and a more user-friendly service when they’re looking to buy or sell their vehicles,” explained Van Stokes, division chief of MWR’s Recreation Division who oversees the Air Assault Auto facility.

“By securing the location we’re able to keep the lot from turning into a refuge for abandoned vehicles, or commercial activities,” Stokes explained. “Both of these issues have proven to be real problems for locations like the Fort Campbell “lemon lot.” We’re determined to provide a service that is secure and will be valued by our customers.”

Customers have the option of two different packets to choose from when they decide to use this service. Packet A offers basic one months rent of $15 to secure a space in the lot for your vehicle. Packet B, for $25, includes one months rent plus a 23 point visual inspection of the vehicle which will be available to read for those interested in purchasing the vehicle.

Both packets include a minimum of four pictures of the vehicle to help document any existing damages and to be posted on the Fort Campbell MWR web site to give customers and the community the added convenience of viewing all vehicles for sale online, at any time.

“People are generally strapped for time these days. Placing pictures of each vehicle online is just another way we can help bring our service to the community that much quicker and easier,” said Christiana Martin, manager of the Air Assault Auto Repair Center and Parts Store. “They can get online and take a quick shopping trip through the lot over lunch if they need. Allowing them to preview what’s available before they actually drive out to the lot.”

The lot, along with POVs, is also open to the sale of boats, campers, trailers, and motorcycles. Vehicles can be placed and/or removed from the lot any time during the month, as the space that’s rented will be held.

The only requirements needed to use this service is a DoD ID card, state registration, post registration, proof of insurance, and the vehicle must be in operable condition and meet environmental requirements at the time it’s brought in.
