What activities are there on ft. Campbell?
Ft. Campbell has a variety of activities including hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. An archery range, a paintball field and a skeet range are also available.
How do i make use of these activities?
Use of the rear area is by permit only. Post permits are available for purchase at outdoor recreation and are sold for all hunting, fishing and recreational land use activities. Archery, paintball and skeet are on a pay as you go basis. For cost of permit please contact the outdoor recreation office.
What do i need to hunt?
Anyone desiring to hunt on ft. Campbell must have a valid hunter safety course. Hunters also need a valid hunting license from the state of kentucky or tennessee for the type of game they wish to hunt. Finally, hunters are required to have a ft. Campbell post permit. Minimum hunting age on ft. Campbell is 10. There is no hunting on ft. Campbell on tuesdays and wednesdays.
What do i need to fish?
Anyone fishing on ft. Campbell needs a fishing license from the state of kentucky or tennessee if they are eligible for one. A ft. Campbell post permit is also needed for patrons ages 16 and above. Trout fishing requires a valid trout stamp from kentucky or tennessee. Boats, with certain restriction, may be used.
What do i need to camp or hike?
A ft. Campbell post permit is required for age 16 and above to make use training areas for recreational puposes. Recreation permits are available for hiking, scouting and camping and are available for purchase at outdoor recreation. These activities are also included in the purchase of a combination permit. Camping is permitted at lake kyle only.
What can’t i do?
Motor vehiciles are restricted to named roads only. There is nowhere on ft. Campbell to use dirt bikes, 4 wheel drive vehicles or atv type vehicles for recreation. Swimming is not allowed in any body of water on ft. Campbell. Introducing onto, or removing from ft. Campbell any plant, animal or artifact, with few exceptions, is illegal. Camping in a training area is unauthorized.

Hunting
What kind of game does ft. Campbell have?
Ft. Campbell has a variety of game, but in general game is divided into two major groups- big game (deer and turkey) and small game (quail, rabbit, etc.)
What do i need to hunt?
All hunters, regardless of age, need a valid hunter safety course. Next hunters need a valid hunting license from kentucky or tennessee for the type of game being hunted. Soldiers on leave have an exception. Finally hunters need a ft. Campbell post permit. Hunting permits are for either big game or small game and combination permits are available for all types of game. Post permits are good for 1 year and run from march to february, just like a license. Licenses and post permits are available for purchase at the outdoor recreation office. The minimum age to hunt on post is 10.
How do i know where to hunt?
Military training takes priority for land use on ft. Campbell. Training areas not being used for training can be used for recreational purposes, to include hunting. Ft. Campbell outdoor recreation publishes a list weekly of training areas available for different game and authorized weapons.
How do i reserve a hunting area?
Ft. Campbell uses an automated telephonic reservation system. Hunters may call in for an area assignment two days prior to the hunt, starting at the following times- active duty personnel 0800, disabled american veterans 0830, department of defense employees, retirees and department of army civilians 0900 and all others at 1000. The automated menu will guide the hunter through the system. After successfully checking into the system the hunter is required to pick up his area assignment before hunting. How do i get my area assignment?
Hunters may pick up their area assignment during normal business hours at the outdoor recreation area assignment section. The outdoor recreation staff will check the hunters post permit. The outdoor recreation staff will issue the hunter copies of the area assignment as proof of the hunters reservation.
I’ve checked into the system and am now done hunting. How do i check out?
Area assignments must be returned to the outdoor recreation office not later than 90 minutes after official sunset the day of the hunt. The hunter must also check out of the automated system telephonically by 2100 hours the day of the hunt. There are some exceptions for night hunters. Big game hunters must bring their game to the outdoor recreation check in station for a ft. Campbell kill tag. Small game hunters must report their harvest, even a zero harvest, on their area assignments

Where can i fish on ft. Campbell and for what type of fish?
Ft. Campbell has 2 lakes, 2 stocked trout streams and numerous beaver ponds. There is also a kiddie fishing pond. Common fish caught are bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and trout.
What do i need to fish?
Anyone age 16 and above fishing on ft. Campbell must have a fishing license from the state of kentucky or tennessee. In tennessee children ages 13-15 must have a junior license. Both kentucky and tennessee have free fishing days or weekends in june when no license is required. Also all patrons 16 and above must have a post permit. For the cost of post permits please contact the outdoor recreation office. All permits are valid from march thru february the following year. Children can fish with adults without a permit. Both licenses and post permits are available for purchase at the outdoor recreation resale store. All fishermen also need an area assignment.
How do i get an area assignment?
Ft. Campbell uses an automated telephonic reservation system. The automated menu will guide the permit holder to successfully reserve a training area. Fishermen can call in for a reservation beginning at 0800 up to two days prior to the day of the activity. No area assignment will be issued for areas being hunted or areas being used for military training, with the exception of some co-use fishing areas. A list of available areas for recreational use is published weekly by outdoor recreation. Once the fisherman has sucessfully checked into the automated system, they must come to the outdoor recreation office to pick up an area assignment before going out to fish. The fisherman is required to show their post permit; after hours, self service fishing area assignments are available at the outdoor recreation entrance. After i’m done fishing, how do i check out of the system?
Fishing area assignments must be retuned to the outdoor recreation office not later than 0900 hours the day after the activity. Area assignments may also be placed in the drop boxes located at lake kyle or the conservation office on mabry road.
