Welcome to Fort Campbell's
Army Community Service

From pioneer days to the Volunteer Army of the 80’s, the concept of humanitarian concern for the welfare of others exists as a foundation of the Army way-of-life. A Volunteer spirit and the tradition of “caring for its own” are its characteristics. For years, Army wives operated lending closets, thrift shops and nurseries, raised funds to help the needy, assisted in emergencies, taught and trained the inexperienced, provided care and comfort to the ill and bereaved, and through a grassroots understanding of the Army community, contributed significantly to its stability. An adverse aspect of these social service activities often disappeared or stagnated when their originators transferred or left the service. In 1965 Army Community Service (ACS) was officially born out of the need to eliminate this adverse aspect to a large extent and provide a flexible frame-work for the operation of a viable system of social services, requirements and resources of each local Army community.

Director's Corner

Welcome to Army Community Service (ACS)
Hello, my name is Kim Hooks, and I am the Army Community Service (ACS) Director.  I have worked with Fort Campbell’s ACS since June 1992.  I started out as the Administrative Assistant to the Installation Volunteer Coordinator which led to becoming the Installation Volunteer Coordinator (now known as the Army Volunteer Corps Coordinator).  My next position was the Mobilization/Deployment Manager and the Facility Manager for the Family Resource Center until October 2007, when I was reassigned to acting ACS Director.
As the Installation Volunteer Coordinator, I have had the fortune of working with many wonderful volunteers and have come to understand the important role they hold within the ACS organization. Additionally, Volunteers are the backbone of Fort Campbell and have always held a special place in my heart.  Over the years I have seen growth, changes, and many individual’s visions of where they see Fort Campbell in the future.  I can honestly say, every day we are getting closer to achieving that vision.
In November, I had the great privilege of witnessing the Army Family Covenant signing at the Family Resource Center. I felt overwhelmed with pride as I listened to our senior leaders pledge to support our Families as their Soldiers defend our nation. Secretary of the Army, Pete Geren, stated, "I can assure you that your Army leadership understands the important contribution each and every one of you makes. We need to make sure we step up and provide the support Families need so the Army Family stays healthy and ready."
As ACS Director, my mission is to ensure that Fort Campbell’s ACS will do everything we can to support our Soldiers, Families and the Army Family Covenant.
In closing, if you have any issues or concerns please feel free to contact me at kim.hooks@us.army.mil
Thank you,
Kim Hooks
