From May 15 to 20, 2007, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell will commemorate Week of the Eagles. The Week of the Eagles is a biannual event that pays tribute to all Screaming Eagles who have served our nation since 1941.

During Week of the Eagles, over 150,000 veterans and visitors will converge on Fort Campbell for the prestigious weeklong celebration. In the spirit of military tradition, the Division of over 26,000 Soldiers, special operation units and support units will conduct a Division Review which will include veterans and retirees.

“Week of the Eagles, The Legacy Continues,” will allow Soldiers, families, the local communities, and veterans to appreciate the Division’s capabilities, combat readiness, and the proud history of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Special events planned during the week include a memorial ceremony, competitive Esprit de Corps sporting events and many other exciting events including an Air Show, Concert, Division Review, Normandy BBQ, 10K Fun Run and Legacy Golf Scramble.

POWER LIFTING
Fratellenico Physical Fitness Center
Gather ‘round and be in awe as Soldiers demonstrate their strength at the Power Lifting competition on May 17, beginning at 9 a.m.  Fratellenico Physical Fitness Center will be divided into three different competitive arenas: squat, bench press and dead lift.  Competitors will be divided into three different weight classes per event.  This competition will be conducted IAW with the National Strength Association (NSA) for Power Lifting.

COMBATIVES
Freedom Fighter’s Physical Fitness Center
FINALS, May 18, 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.,
Lozada Physical Fitness Center

Come cheer your brigade representatives on as they compete for the combative title on May 17 and 18 at Freedom Fighter’s and Lozada Physical Fitness Centers.  What are combatives?  Combatives is a form of hand to hand combat which combines Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Muay Thai, SOMBO and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  It is a style of wrestling with submission such as armbars, chokes and leg locks. 

Each brigade and post unit will submit four Soldiers in the following weight classes: Lightweight (135 lbs and below), Welterweight (136-165 lbs), Middleweight (166-195 lbs), Light Heavyweight (196-220 lbs) and Super Heavyweight (over 221 lbs).  Winners of first and second place will also qualify for the All Army Tournament.  Show support for your Soldiers by coming out and cheering on all participants in a little friendly competition.

DIVISION MEMORIAL
Division Headquarters, Building T-39

During this week long celebration of a Division proud of its history and ready to face its future, one must not forget those who have given their all to protect our freedom.  Beginning at 8 a.m. on May 19, the Division will honor all Soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice at the memorial in front of Division Headquarters, Building T-39.  MG Schloesser and the president of the 101st Association will be the key note speakers for the memorial ceremony.  There will also be 30 seconds of silence to remember our fallen followed by the ceremonial firing and “TAPS”.

Pump up the volume, music fans!  After the Week of the Eagles Air Show, you’ll want to come out to Fryar Stadium for the free MWR and VFW Week of the Eagles Concert, live on the Budweiser stage.  With four different back-to-back performances there is sure to be something to please every music lover’s ears. 

The Gin Blossoms will light up the stage with new songs like “Learning the Hard Way” and old favorites such as “Hey Jealousy” and “’Til I Hear it from You.”  Opening for the Gin Blossoms are R & B crooner Tony Terry, country music artist Meghan Shanley and newcomer Stephen Cochran. Concert music starts at 7 p.m.

The gates will open at 5 p.m. with MWR’s Gear-to-Go on site with inflatables, so even the younger concert goers can have a bouncing good time. Armbands will be sold for unlimited use of the concert inflatables for just $5.   Food and drinks will be available for purchase from several vendors throughout the concert. No outside beverages, food, cans, glass, coolers, pets or video cameras will be allowed. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Air Show

Come fly with the Eagles without ever leaving the ground.  Grab a lawn chair, put on some sunscreen, and set your eyes on the skies on Saturday May 19 for the Week of the Eagles Air Show at Campbell Army Airfield.  Come out and see the 101st Screaming Eagles Parachute Demonstration Team jump from a C-47 Skytrain Aircraft.  There will be amazing displays going on all day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Other highlights of the day will include a WWII Vintage Aircraft Demonstration and Ground Reenactment with JU-52 Junkers, PV-2 Harpoon, B-25 Mitchell, and a C-47 Skytrain.  Later in the afternoon there will also be an A-10 Thunderbolt Demonstration and Heritage flight with a P-51 Mustang and the show will close with a Vietnam Era Airmobile Operation with AH-1s, UH-1s, and AH-6s reenacted by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation.  Static displays and flybys by various U.S. Military Aircraft will take place throughout the day.

Take this opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family. There is no charge for admission to the Week of the Eagles Air Show. Vendors, including Golden Rule Smokehouse Grill, will have food and drinks available for purchase during this all day event.  MWR’s Gear-To-Go will also be there with inflatables set up to help keep the little ones entertained with some bouncing fun.  There is a $5 armband charge for unlimited bouncing on the inflatables.  All vendors will be accepting cash only. LEGACY GOLF SCRAMBLE
Cole Park Golf Club

The weather is warming up and its time to brush the dust off your clubs and head to Cole Park Golf Club to show off your game.  The Legacy Golf Tournament will be held May 20 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.  There will be two shotgun starts, one at 8 a.m. and the other at 12:30 p.m.  The tournament will be formatted in the “Best Ball” style and is open to one team per battalion and 26 teams are allotted for Retirees, sponsors, Civilians and additional battalion teams.  All teams consist of four golfers and registration is taken on a first come, first serve basis.  Cost per player is estimated at $30.  All teams must be registered by May 11 in order to participate.

To end the weeklong festivities, come enjoy good food and even better company at the USAA and Golden Rule Smokehouse Normandy Barbeque.  Freedom Fighter’s Physical Fitness Center will be filled with the aroma of all your barbeque favorites to include: ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausage, chicken, brisket, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, banana pudding and chocolate dessert, all prepared by the Golden Rule Smokehouse Grill restaurant.  Bottled wine will also be available at each table.  There will be full service cash bars available.  The bars will accept cash only.  No checks or credit cards will be accepted.  All this good food will be served starting at 6 p.m. on May 20.  Tickets are $10 and each brigade was allotted a predetermined number of tickets to distribute to their Soldiers for purchase.  There will, however be a limited number of tickets available for those interested in attending.  Those tickets are available at Cole Park Community Activities Center, but they will go fast.  To check the status of ticket availability, please call (270) 798-4610 X119.  Dress code for the USAA and Golden Rule Smokehouse Normandy Barbeque is business casual.
